The mistake I made…

During my tenure at

1. Gallup the team managed to grow Gallup business six fold in 6 years.

2. Aon Hewitt from 2% market share to 70% market share in 4 years

3. Tata Strategic Management Group 7 fold growth in 6 years

4. Tecnova India 5 fold growth in 5 years.

Clearly, there were few in these companies who could lead the teams to such growth, as the growth did not happen before me or after me. It only went down after I quit.

Despite stellar performance for 4 times in a row, why was I not a global head of a practice or a regional CEO? What went wrong?

R Gopalakrishnan (Gopal) asked me, “Why do you not succeed more than you have despite exemplary performance? Is there something wrong with you?” I thought about it and I realised that while I was very focussed on managing clients and teams, I went wrong in managing bosses and global leaders in the USA or Group HQ.
