
Are you working for a hashtag#People hashtag#Focused hashtag#Organization that might fail?
I love Gallup science and most of what I learned in employee engagement was from Gallup. I owe it to Gallup. However, further hashtag#research at Gallup appears to have stopped and hashtag#technology never took off.
They stop listening to their customers.
It went into a negative spiral in India. Gallup had 95% of the market share in 2010. Today they appear to have less than 20 clients. Why did this happen?
The answer is – I don’t know.
However, let me create a hypothetical organization and call it Company X and analyze as a student of management sciences what could have gone wrong in this company.
Let us assume that Company X was hugely focused on people and practiced positivity and empowerment.

What was possibly missing?
hashtag#Stretch hashtag#targets:
Performance orientation and stretch target were missing. The performance management system was not demanding enough of all the functions. It led to a laid-back culture.
hashtag#Differential hashtag#Treatment:
While Marcus Buckingham advocated that great managers differentiate, Company X failed to differentiate performers and critical talent. Top researchers left the company leading to stagnation of research and obsolescence.
hashtag#Extraordinary hashtag#US hashtag#Focus:
Research was made a preserve of the US head office and the professionals in Asian countries were not encouraged to continue research. The cost of research went up and could not be funded. Science became very US-centric and obsolete over time.
hashtag#Technology:
The technology team lacked fresh talent and stuck to old stacks making the tech interface out of sync with the current generation of clients.
hashtag#Sharing hashtag#wealth:
Possibly Company X was not open to ESOPs and sharing wealth with human scientists and the those driving growth.
My clients have been asking me what is people focus? People Focus has been a low scoring driver for a lot of companies.
What is People Focus:
1. Treat employees as hashtag#partners:
Give them meaningful work to do and empower them to take decisions they can take.
2. Focus on hashtag#Stretch hashtag#Targets:
High performers love to be stretched.
3. hashtag#Differentiate:
Differentiate performers from mediocre. Provide performers extraordinary opportunities and reward them extraordinarily.
4. Enable Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (hashtag#DEI):
Practice it. Don’t just make statements about it. Create a global business. Let people from different cultures, nationalities, gender, educational background, and races contribute to the business.
5. hashtag#Share hashtag#wealth:
hashtag#GenZ is clear about creating wealth for themselves if they are creating wealth for business. Share wealth. They deserve it if they are contributions.
